Call for Side Events, COP-26 Cryosphere Pavilion

The COP-26 Cryosphere Pavilion will take place in the accredited Blue Zone at the Scottish Event Centre (SEC) in Glasgow from October 31-November 12, 2021.  ICCI, together with a number of partners from governments, IGOs, academic institutions and civil society is coordinating Pavilion events.

The call to apply for a side event, exhibit, or evening cultural event is now closed. Please contact heidi@iccinet.org if you have any qestuins.  A large focus of COP-26 is on the need for greater ambition and emissions reductions by 2030.  While all cryosphere science side events are welcome, the Pavilion programme will reflect this science-policy emphasis, and strong preference will be given to side events or exhibit proposals with such an emphasis, especially on the global consequences from cryosphere with overshoot of the Paris goals or benefits of meeting those goals.  Virtual and hybrid proposals are also welcome.  For more information, see the Pavilion Concept Note here, or contact heidi@iccinet.org.

Side event proposals will be accepted and evaluated on an ongoing basis, but note that due to accreditation requirements, proposals should be submitted no later than August 31, 2021.  A waitlist will be created after that date.

Observer badges and travel support via ICCI will be extremely limited; and approval of a Pavilion side event unfortunately is no guarantee of either. Organizers of events should make every effort to obtain badges first through their own institutions or national governments.

We will however make every effort to facilitate your participation!

The COP-25 Pavilion hosted 5 “early career scientists” (doctoral and post-doc level) to staff the Pavilion: introducing speakers, answering questions about the exhibits to make the science more accessible, and importantly, also providing them an inside view of a COP and negotiations to further inform their scientific careers (and perhaps encourage some to become more engaged in government policy work, such as AAAS placements in the U.S.). Accreditations permitting, the COP-26 Pavilion would hope to expand this program, and provide not only housing as in Madrid, but travel to Glasgow to allow greater and more global participation; adding to the strong Youth presence at the Pavilion. The application process is now closed. Finalists will be notified in early September latest. For more information, contact heidi@iccinet.org .

Welcome!
