Kryosf\u00e4ren \u00e4r en term f\u00f6r de delar av v\u00e5r jordklot som t\u00e4cks av is och sn\u00f6, antingen s\u00e4songsbundet eller \u00e5ret runt. Isar, havsis, glaci\u00e4rer och sn\u00f6, samt permafrost spelar en avg\u00f6rande roll i v\u00e5r kryosf\u00e4r. Tillsammans t\u00e4cker dessa omr\u00e5den mer \u00e4n 15% av jordens yta. De \u00e4r tydliga indikatorer p\u00e5 klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar, och isf\u00f6rlust fr\u00e5n dessa omr\u00e5den medf\u00f6r \u00f6kade risker f\u00f6r ekosystem och m\u00e4nskliga samh\u00e4llen i global skala. Redan p\u00e5 1990-talet blev det \u00f6vertygande tydligt att stigande temperaturer fr\u00e5n CO\u2082-utsl\u00e4pp orsakar att delar av kryosf\u00e4ren (s\u00e4rskilt alpina glaci\u00e4rer och arktisk havsis) krymper dramatiskt.<\/p>\n<p>Forskningens fynd under decennier ger ett tydligt och livsviktigt budskap: kryosf\u00e4ren \u00e4r inte l\u00e4ngre bara \u201ckanarief\u00e5geln i gruvan\u201d, eller en tidig indikator p\u00e5 klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna. Ist\u00e4llet, n\u00e4r kryosf\u00e4ren f\u00f6rs\u00e4mras \u00f6ver hela v\u00e4rlden, n\u00e5r effekterna delar av jordklotet l\u00e5ngt bort fr\u00e5n kryosf\u00e4ren sj\u00e4lv. Sm\u00e4ltande glaci\u00e4rer och inlandsisar bidrar till havsniv\u00e5h\u00f6jningen; tinande permafrost sl\u00e4pper redan ut koldioxidutsl\u00e4pp i atmosf\u00e4ren i samma skala som ett stort land; f\u00f6rsurning av polarhav absorberar koldioxid fr\u00e5n luften och l\u00f6ser upp skalen p\u00e5 marina organismer; f\u00f6rsvinnande av arktisk havsis \u00f6kar den globala uppv\u00e4rmningen och st\u00e4rker extrema v\u00e4derh\u00e4ndelser \u00f6ver Eurasien och Nordamerika; f\u00f6rsvinnande av glaci\u00e4rer i bergen och sn\u00f6t\u00e4cke minskar vattenf\u00f6rs\u00f6rjningen f\u00f6r jordbruk, elproduktion och turism. Faktabladen nedan inneh\u00e5ller mer detaljer om var och en av dessa kryosf\u00e4riska dynamiker.<\/p>\n<h3>Varje br\u00e5kdel av en grad spelar roll.<\/h3>\n<p>Dessa effekter av v\u00e5r planets f\u00f6rlust av sina naturliga isregioner kommer att bli allt mer katastrofala f\u00f6r varje br\u00e5kdel av en grads temperatur\u00f6kning, s\u00e4rskilt om vi \u00f6verskrider <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/process-and-meetings\/the-paris-agreement\">Parisavtalet<\/a><\/strong> gr\u00e4nsen p\u00e5 1,5\u00b0C, och \u00e4nnu mer \u00f6ver 2\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e4stan alla f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar som orsakas av f\u00f6rlusten av kryosf\u00e4ren \u00e4r i princip permanenta och varar i m\u00e5nga \u00e5rhundraden eller tusentals \u00e5r. Skadornas omfattning kommer att best\u00e4mmas av den h\u00f6gsta temperaturen: \u00e4ven en senare \u00e5terg\u00e5ng till l\u00e4gre temperaturer (om vi inte framkallar en istid) kommer inte att \u00e5terf\u00f6ra det mesta av isen. Forskare inom kryosf\u00e4ren \u00e4r i stort sett \u00f6verens om att \u00e4ven 2\u00b0C \u00e4r f\u00f6r h\u00f6gt \u2013 vi kan se i jordens f\u00f6rflutna en planet med havsniv\u00e5er 15-25 meter h\u00f6gre \u00e4n idag vid den temperaturen. Fysiska observationer, rekonstruktioner av paleo-rekord, modelleringsprojektioner och annat bekr\u00e4ftar att \u00e4ven 1,5\u00b0C \u00e4r f\u00f6r kostsamt \u00f6ver l\u00e5nga tidsperioder. Ist\u00e4llet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/sr15\/faq\/faq-chapter-1\/\"><strong>vi beh\u00f6ver se 1,5 grader C som en skyddsr\u00e4cke<\/strong><\/a>, en niv\u00e5 som vi inte b\u00f6r \u00f6verskrida, eller bara \u00f6verskrida kortvarigt, och \u00e4ven d\u00e5 arbeta f\u00f6r att komma under 1\u00b0C s\u00e5 snart som m\u00f6jligt.<\/p>\n<h3>Ett budskap om br\u00e5dska och hopp.<\/h3>\n<p>Kriosf\u00e4ren befinner sig p\u00e5 en accelererad uppv\u00e4rmningsbana, och vissa av dessa f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar kan driva globala klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar snabbare och l\u00e4ngre \u00e4n vi f\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande \u00e4r f\u00f6rberedda p\u00e5 att hantera. Om uppv\u00e4rmningen forts\u00e4tter obehindrat \u00f6kar riskerna fr\u00e5n fortsatt havsniv\u00e5h\u00f6jning, \u00f6versv\u00e4mningar och st\u00f6rningar i vattenresurserna dramatiskt. Detsamma g\u00e4ller risken f\u00f6r stora utsl\u00e4pp av CO<sub>2<\/sub> och metan fr\u00e5n permafrost, vilket potentiellt kan \u00f6verskugga globala anstr\u00e4ngningar att minska kolf\u00f6roreningar.
