{"id":1868,"date":"2020-10-23T20:51:29","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T20:51:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iccinet.org\/?p=1868"},"modified":"2022-07-12T15:22:20","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T15:22:20","slug":"worldwide-decline-in-snow-accumulation-and-duration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iccinet.org\/sv\/worldwide-decline-in-snow-accumulation-and-duration\/","title":{"rendered":"Worldwide Decline in Snow Accumulation and Duration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>Environmental Research Letters, October 14<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Snow cover and duration has declined worldwide over the past three decades\u00a0due to the rise in global mean temperature.\u00a0 Snowpack in the mid-latitudes and at lower altitudes &#8212; especially in the southern and south-eastern parts of the Himalayas; Iberian Peninsula; southern Andes; Drakensberg Range in South Africa; New Zealand; and the Eastern Highlands of Australia \u00a0&#8212; is\u00a0more sensitive to warming than\u00a0those in higher altitudes or latitudes. The water cycles in these mountain ranges likely become less dependent on snowpack as temperatures rise, although in this study no clear relationship could be established between snowpack changes and local declines in annual river runoff.
