COP28 Video of the Week: “Protecting our Winters: Mobilizing the Outdoor Sports Community to Combat Climate Change”

Filmed last month at the COP28 Cryosphere Pavilion in Dubai, this side event reflects on the impacts of declining snow and ice in mid-latitude mountain ranges, with a unique focus on the outdoor sports industry. With one speaker joining in his snowboarding gear from a mountain top in Hochfügen, Austria, the event showcased successful initiatives where the outdoor sports community has rallied to combat climate change. Dr. Heïdi Sevestre, of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), moderated this session. Speakers included Samuel Morin, Director of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS); Elias Elhardt, professional snowboarder and Ambassador of Protect Our Winters (POW); Alistair Maltby, President of POW Europe; and Florian Palluel, Sustainability Manager at Picture.
