巴塔哥尼亚冰川极端消融可能随着排放量下降而减缓

巴塔哥尼亚安第斯山脉南部的冰川对地表融化极为敏感,在过去的一个世纪里,由于全球变暖,冰川迅速变薄。巴塔哥尼亚有两个巨大的冰原,冰川相互连接,绵延数百公里。它们是极地以外第二大的大陆冰原。随着高排放量的持续,地表融化将加速巴塔哥尼亚冰原的冰雪流失。然而,采用低排放的途径有可能稳定巴塔哥尼亚南部冰原,防止其进一步后退。 在北部冰原,即使在低排放条件下,这些冰川也不会稳定下来;但冰川的减薄速度会明显减慢,从每年减薄 1.9 米减至 1.5 米。这些冰川的融水是世界上海平面上升的最大非极地来源。除非减少排放,否则冰雪的积累将不再能够克服这些不断加快的融化速度,从而危及依赖这些冰川的稳定性进行供水和农业生产的社区。.
