南极半岛最大残余冰架的极端融水状况

在 2019-2020 年期间,乔治六世冰架的表面融化持续时间和范围创下了过去 30 年来的最高纪录,而之前 30 年的融化程度明显较低。乔治六世冰架长 56 公里,比南极半岛上任何其他剩余冰架支撑的陆地冰都多。尤其在冰架北端观察到了大片地表融水池,1 月份约有 23% 的地表被融水池覆盖。这些异常的融化和地表条件是由温暖、低速气流引起的,它们使气温异常长时间地维持在零度以上,从南极夏季开始于 11 月下旬,并阻止了再次冻结。冰架表面积水增多威胁到它们的稳定性,并可能最终导致其坍塌,就像 2002 年拉森 B 冰架的坍塌一样。.
