ICCI is Hiring!

Dear Cryosphere Capsule Readers
30 December 2022

ICCI is looking to fill two positions early in 2023: our Outreach Director, and an Antarctica Director, which can be structured as a one- or two-year science-policy Post-doctoral Fellowship for early career researchers, similar to AAAS positions in the U.S. Capsule position descriptions are below: please forward these to good candidates within your networks! Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, so early application is strongly encouraged. Questions can also be directed to info@iccinet.org.

Outreach Director

ICCI seeks an enthusiastic Outreach Director with previous experience in media relations, journalism and/or communications, preferably related to climate change, science or development; to join our diverse and global team of cryosphere scientists and ex-diplomats to help communicate the vital urgency of emission reductions to prevent additional loss and collapse of mountain and polar cryosphere. This exciting and varied work includes contacts with media, the scientific community, governments, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations, especially the UNFCCC, Arctic Council, Antarctic Treaty system and Mountain Partnership; as well as the new ministerial-level coalition of 20-plus governments of the “Ambition on Melting Ice” (AMI) Coalition formed at COP27 in Egypt, and for which ICCI serves as a secretariat. Applicants from across the career span and with varied backgrounds, from the scientific community to dedicated media specialists, are welcome and encouraged to apply; see more information at: https://iccinet.org/join-us/

Antarctica Director/Post-doctoral Fellow

ICCI is seeking an Antarctica Director – a position that can also be structured as a science-policy post-doctoral Fellowship. This position seeks to bring forward Antarctic science and climate change to policy makers and communities worldwide; with a focus on how changes in Antarctica, due to global warming, will impact the rest of the planet. Special emphasis will be given to ice sheet loss and committed sea-level rise well beyond this century; and acidification, warming and freshening of the Southern Ocean. The position is therefore especially appropriate to early career scientists whose research focuses on one of these aspects of Antarctic science, as well as those with a policy interest in sea-level rise and polar oceans. Work may begin immediately or at any point through early summer 2023; but interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, with the expectation that the successful applicant be chosen by February.
