在末次间冰期(LIG,冰河时期之间)的12.5万年前,海洋温度比工业化前水平高出1.5-2°C。西南极冰盖(WAIS)的冰量损失加速,阿蒙森海附近的冰川融化和断裂导致海平面上升4米。东极冰盖受到的影响较小,最大的融水排水点之一——东极冰盖的威尔克斯盆地变薄,但没有后退。鉴于即使在极低排放的情况下,预测的升温也可能发生,这些发现表明,西南极冰盖的部分地区可能会在没有额外温室气体排放和相关变暖的情况下发生坍塌;但当温度接近2°C时,风险将增加。必须遵循低排放路径,以避免跨越这明显的2°C阈值,并不可逆地导致西南极冰盖海平面额外上升4米以上。.
