英国气象局 HadCRUT5 数据集的新修订发现，自工业革命以来，全球地表温度实际上升了 1.07°C，高于此前估计的 0.91°C。这一结果的提高部分归因于对北极变暖有了更好的描述，以及对北极和其他监测稀疏地区的改进数据集。此次更新最终使世界三大主要温度数据库（NASA、NOAA 和英国气象局）的数据相吻合，提高了我们对全球变暖幅度的估计。它还强调了将气温控制在 1.5°C 以下的紧迫性。.
