Every increment of warming increases the amount of carbon released by thawing permafrost in the Arctic, and these emissions will continue for centuries even if temperatures lower again. In this session, speakers focus on intergenerational climate justice related to the ever-increasing burden of permafrost emissions on future generations. The event was organized by the Woodwell Climate Research Center and the Bolin Centre for Climate Research. Dr. Rachael Treharne, Arctic Policy Lead at Woodwell, moderated this event. Panelists included Lisa Koperqualuk, President of the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Canada and Vice-Chair of ICC International; Dr. Gustaf Hugelius, Vice Director of the Bolin Center, Stockholm University; Soomin Han, Climate Finance Lead at Youth Climate Lab; Sharon Gakii, Arctic Angels; and Heeta Lakhani, Founder of the Climate Youth Negotiators Academy.
