Cryosphere Pavilion Video of the Week: “Global Glacier Meltdown: Every Degree of Warming Matters” with Dr. Regine Hock

This COP26 video with IPCC scientist Dr. Regine Hock, University of Oslo/University of Alaska and one of the above paper’s co-authors, explains some of the dynamics and research behind the above study released this week. Her presentation notes that glaciers are now receding and losing ice worldwide, even in regions where they seemed stable before. Snowpack also is decreasing in important watersheds, such as the North American West. Glaciers have shown they can recede quickly and even disappear; but they will be slow to grow back, especially with continued high emissions and temperatures. What will be the implications for ecosystem services such as electric power, water supplies for drinking and agriculture, and other needs?
