联合国即将召开的会议聚焦全球山地冰川和积雪

The International Conference on Glaciers Preservation will take place in Dushanbe from May 29-31. The conference will build momentum in global efforts to highlight the critical role of glaciers and snowpack and energize climate action during the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP). Importantly, it will strengthen conversations between heads of state and government, national representatives, local leaders, scientists and civil society to address global glacial melting and the cascading impacts on climate adaptation and resilience. Sessions will focus on knowledge exchange, sharing solutions and best practices, and discussing transboundary needs to address impacts on water and food security. Outcomes from this conference will be presented to the UN General Assembly next September and will include the Dushanbe Glaciers Declaration.

Last week, Sagarmatha Sambaad (Everest Dialogue) took place in Kathmandu, with a three-day discussion forum dedicated to generating action to overcome challenges in environment, economy, and sociocultural fields related to mountains, glaciers and climate change. The dialogue is named after Mt. Everest, the tallest witness of climate change. These events strengthen international cooperation and commitments to bring necessary ambition into COP30 and forward during this critical decade.
