冰冻圈

气候变化在地球冰冻圈中发生得更快,且以更加显著的方式显现出来。冰冻圈包括南北极周围以及高山地区的积雪和冰覆盖区域。不论是高纬度还是高海拔,这些地方的气温已经至少上升到全球平均水平的两倍。因此,这些脆弱而美丽地区的生态系统和社区正在崩解,冰层和永久冻土的融化甚至就在我们脚下发生。

但这一迅速变暖的冰冻圈的最大威胁不再仅仅存在于这些地区本身。相反,我们正在崩溃的冰冻圈对整个地球产生了最具灾难性和最广泛的影响:冰川和冰盖融化导致的海平面上升;用于水需求的积雪减少;极地海洋和渔业的冷水酸化速度更快,极地贝壳动物已经受到损害;永久冻土释放的碳量相当于全球前20名温室气体排放国之一,此外北极的海冰在全年范围内不断缩减。这些影响都在加速并进一步加剧地球变暖。

这些由冰冻圈崩溃带来的大多数影响,是我们即使把温度降下来也无法逆转的。我们唯一可行的选择是决不能让温度上升到那么高。保护冰冻圈不仅仅是保护生活在那里的人民和物种,而是保护我们所有人。

我们的工作

我们相信,如果众多合作伙伴共同努力,可以取得很大的成就,ICCI更关心的是在各个层面上实现必要的解决方案,而不是追求荣誉。因此,ICCI致力于以创新但低调且持续的方式,与冰冻圈科学家、政府、非政府组织和私营部门共同创建新的合作伙伴关系和方法;然而,时间对冰冻圈的生存来说是紧迫的,这也会关系到地球的生存。

冰冻圈还为居住在附近的人们,尤其是北极土著和山区居民,提供了互补的气候解决方案的可能性。例如,无论是来自小型炊具或取暖炉,还是大规模野火的黑碳(烟尘)落在冰雪上都会导致其融化更快;因此,减少黑碳可以帮助减缓冰雪的损失,同时也有助于在迅速变化的气候中进行适应,并改善人类健康。减少人类活动产生的甲烷排放也可能有助于抵消来自解冻的永久冻土的这种强效温室气体的排放。

ICCI致力于寻找新的综合解决方案,以造福当地的山地和北极社区。特别是,自2010年以来,我们一直致力于减少农业燃烧以及取暖和烹饪炉具的黑碳排放。然而,我们必须明确指出:减排的主要重点在于减少化石燃料的使用,目标是按照IPCC的建议,到2030年减少约50%;到2050年实现碳中和;并在此后实现负排放,以保持在《巴黎协定》的1.5°C“安全线”内。每一分一毫的温度上升都会增加未来许多代人的“全球损失和损害”。排放专家明确表示,如果我们选择及时采取行动,依旧有机会把未来升温控制在1.5°C。
